Ms. Phyllis Gapinski Retires After 19 Years at Hotchkiss

On September 28th, Ms. Phyllis Gapinski, housekeeping supervisor, left the school to retire to South Carolina. In November of 1999, Ms. Gapinski joined Hotchkiss as the housekeeping supervisor and remained in that role for 19 years. No one has yet been selected to fill her position.

As housekeeping supervisor, Ms. Gapinski was tasked with organizing and directing the housekeeping team. Her daily duties ranged from setting up for major events to supervising all dorm custodians. Mr. John Wheeler, assistant supervisor of housekeeping, who worked alongside Ms. Gapinski, said, “She made sure everything got done and that everyone was doing their job.”

To the housekeeping staff, the faculty, and the students, Ms. Gapinski has been a familiar face and a key member of the community. William Muse ’21 said, “Ms. Gapinski is one of the people [who] helps make all of our lives easier, and I am extremely appreciative for everything that she has done for me and the rest of school.”
