The Hotchkiss Record Mission Statement
Adopted on July 3, 2020 by the CXXII Executive Board
Goals and Principles
The primary mission of The Hotchkiss Record is to record the history of events and people at Hotchkiss and the surrounding community. The Hotchkiss Record aims to provide a platform that allows all community members’ voices to be heard. Furthermore, as an organization comprised of students, The Hotchkiss Record endeavors to educate staff members about the standards and ethics of professional journalism. We strive to provide the most accurate and comprehensive information possible, and aim to make our operating procedures as transparent as possible.
The Hotchkiss Record does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, gender, ability, or age.
Content
The Hotchkiss Record covers newsworthy events on campus and in the surrounding community, along with national and international news that impact the school. The Hotchkiss Record will not publish content that breaks the school rules outlined in The Almanac.
Opinions pieces reflect the views of the writer, not the school, Editors-in-Chief, nor The Hotchkiss Record. Editorial pieces are written by the members of the current Executive Board.

If The Hotchkiss Record makes any errors, community members may submit a report using the Corrections Report form. Errata will be published the following issue below the Editorial box and on the Errata page on our website. The Editors-in-Chief take responsibility for any errors published in The Hotchkiss Record.

Leadership Selection Procedures
The current Record Executive Board and faculty advisors select the members of the next Editorial and Executive Board. We are looking for dedicated and hardworking people with good writing and editing skills, creativity, and a good sense of how a newspaper should look. Prior work on The Hotchkiss Record is a prerequisite. If an applicant has contributed in the past or is on the editorial board currently, we will consider consistent attendance, collaboration with others, and willingness to implement suggestions by editors. Applicants should be willing to make a 10-15 hour weekly commitment to the paper.
The Executive Board will provide applicants who do not receive a position with detailed feedback specifying the rationale behind our decision.
