The inaugural Back to School Bash was held from 8-10 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, in Main Circle. All-school Presidents Dwyer Illick ’26 and Serena Nam ’26 planned the event inspired by the Hopkins School’s annual bash, which kicks off the year with faculty and student performances.
Leon Li ’26; Tyler Rosenblum ’27; Thea Dunckel ’26; Ms. Marcie Wistar, director of student activities; Ms. Michele Miller, student activities assistant; and Mr. Derek Brashears, director of theatre, contributed to the evening, which included snacks, games, a WKIS set, and five songs by MB140. Mr. Richard Davis, dean of academic life, and Mr. Doron Blake, instructor in philosophy and religion, joined students as guest musicians.
Mr. Blake said, “Playing in the Bash was tremendous. ‘Wonderwall’ is one of the first songs I learned on guitar when I was in high school, so playing it with a full band of Hotchkiss students (and Mr. Davis) was especially sweet. I hope the event becomes a mainstay on the calendar, and that more faculty jump into the mix next year!”
Tom’s Coffee Truck served noncaffeinated beverages and CulinArt provided pretzels and popcorn. Maddie Sada ’26 and Lauren Niem ’26 offered face painting in the Student Center, while students enjoyed outdoor games, including spike ball, badminton, and cornhole.
