On Saturday, April 5, the Black and Hispanic Student Association (BaHSA) hosted its annual inter- school dance with Berkshire, Deerfield, Loomis Chaffee, Salisbury, and Kent Schools.
The event, organized by BAHSA co-heads Gabriella Mensah ’25 and Jayden Morgan ’25, featured games, vibrant decorations, and DJ Chinua Green. This year’s theme was “Caribbean Festival.”
DJ Green, director of Digital Licensing for Downtown Music Publishing and Songtrust, has been invited to DJ for many of the school’s past dances. Prior to the dance, Mr. Green held a workshop hosted by the WKIS club for aspiring DJs on campus. The students attending were asked about their background in the field of music. Chiwo Mupita ’27, one of the students who attended the workshop, said, “I now feel more confident and encouraged to explore the art of DJ more!”
When asked to reflect on the challenges in organizing the event, Mensah said, “When the directors of other schools realized I was a high school student, it was difficult to communicate with them and get them to listen. Spreading the word about the dance and ensuring people would attend was challenging, especially because Williston was hosting a similar event at the same time.”
WKIS plans to provide this opportunity every year to inspire and support aspiring DJs at the school.
