Girls Varsity Basketball is gearing up for the playoffs after its final game and third match-up with Taft. After finishing the 2023-2024 season with a 16-7 record and this season 16-4, the team enters the postseason with high expectations.
A home game against Taft on February 15, during which the team came back from an 11-point deficit with just two minutes left in the game to win by 11 points in overtime, showcased its ability to recover and persist.
Co-captain Kaila Richards ’25 said, “The challenges that we faced this season were facing adversity and controlling the pace of the game. But playing against higher- seeded teams in the playoffs is nothing different than what we are already used to. We will need to play with more tempo, but I have no doubt the team will be prepared to face our opponents in the playoffs next week.”
In preparing for their final games against strong opponents, Assistant Coach Maggie Crain said, “The players can’t lose out on the fundamentals and the mental game. Refining basic skills while constantly lifting each other is crucial. The strategy that has been most effective in securing wins is the collective effort of all thirteen players on the team, both in games and practices this season.”
“We will continue to stay together as a team and have each other’s backs, no matter what team we are playing. We just want to win,” said Richards.
The team is heading into the New England Class A Girls Basketball Championship as the fourth seed. They will play Thayer Academy on March 5 at Ethel Walker.
