Varsity Girls Soccer, led by Head Coach Missy Wolff and Co-captains Darcy Dwyer ’25, Morgan Jenkins ’25, Quinn Pollack ’25, and Emily Wang ’25, kicked off the season with a 5-1 victory against Lawrenceville.
The team welcomed 11 new players during preseason, which challenged the entire team with fitness tests and footwork drills. “The team bonded well during preseason, and the coach got to see what everyone’s ability was,” said Wang.
Coach Wolff said, “The main goal going into the season is to learn how to play as a team and support each other, figure out the new positions with new players, and make it into the New England Championship.”
Halfway through the season, the team’s current record is 6-2. A season highlight was the team’s 1-0 victory over Williston Academy, avenging last year’s 0-1 loss. Coach Wolff said, “The team faced a challenge, but they did a great job making changes against a strong opponent.”
The team played Suffield Academy on September 28. Although they ultimately lost the match 3-4, they came back from a three-goal deficit. Wang said, “Everyone is important: players on the field always play hard, and players on the sidelines always cheer hard to motivate the team.”
Guests returning for the Alumnae Athletics Reunion Weekend had a chance to see GVS play Choate on October 19. Games against Taft, Westminster, and Loomis are still to come. Coach Wolff said, “We have to take care of ourselves and balance practice and off days.”
The team will face off against Kingswood-Oxford at home on October 26.
