Students gathered in Main Circle to participate in festival games, listen to music, and enjoy shaved ice at the Kona Ice Truck. This year’s Dorm Olympics, held on September 14, kicked off the many student activities for the year.
Dorm Olympics were created by Richie Mamam Nbiba ’23 and Chris Mudry ’23, former all-school presidents, in September 2023. This year, current student body Presidents Eleni Kontokosta ’25 and Isaiah Stephens ’25 collaborated with Ms. Marcie Wistar, director of student activities, to continue the tradition.
Students competed in a variety of games to earn points for their dorms. The games included spike ball, cup pong, ring toss, sack races, and Twister, led by the class councils.
“I volunteered last year and decided to do the same this year. It’s been a great opportunity to meet new students when they visit the
stations,” said Danielle Atoh ’25.
Kontokosta and Stephens worked to increase the efficiency and attendance of the event. They relocated the food truck closer to the activity zones to ensure that everybody gathered in one space and invited more Upper Mids and Seniors to manage the activities.
Stephens said, “It’s important for us to engage in opportunities like this to remember who we are as a community. We not only have a chance to have fun, but also to share experiences with one another.” Kontokosta said, “With Dorm Olympics being one of the opening events of the year, I hope it shows the new students how fun it is to be a part of the school community.”
Louise Weiss ’28 said, “As a new student, Dorm Olympics was a great opportunity to meet new people as a lot of my classmates attended the event. The central location of the various stations also allowed me and my friends to walk around and talk to other students. I especially liked the dunk tank game, and the Kona Ice Truck was a nice treat.”
In the end, Memorial Hall collected the most points across the assortment of games and, as a reward, will receive a barbeque in the near future.
