First published in the 1920s, The Hotchkiss Bulletin evolved over the past century into the Hotchkiss Magazine we know today.
The magazine was created to inform alumni and parents about happenings at school, highlight notable alumni and student achievements, and feature the school’s history. In addition, the publication encourages alums and families to take part in fundraisers, attend reunions, and volunteer at school and athletic events.
Mr. Darryl Gangloff, marketing and communications content strategist, oversees the production of each issue. He said, “My favorite part is just being able to tell the stories of what is happening at Hotchkiss – there are so many amazing alumni doing such wonderful things. Even when doing student profiles, I’m always impressed with what our current students achieve. Overall, I love sharing stories of the Hotchkiss community.”
The magazine usually produces Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer editions. Writing, editing, designing, and printing one edition of the magazine takes around four months, and Mr. Gangloff is not alone in the creation process. The communications team helps select article topics while the alumni and development office helps identify alumni to feature.
In addition to compiling magazine’s sections and proofreading them before printing, Mr. Gangloff works with magazine designers, freelance writers familiar, professional photographers, and student contributors to ensure the magazine’s quality.
Currently, Mr. Gangloff and his team are writing about the new Ford Food Court, the Fall production Little Shop of Horrors, and the upcoming 50th anniversary of coeducation for the upcoming Winter issue of the magazine, forthcoming in February.
