Angel Allen ’24 is a four year Senior from New York City and is co-captain of the Girls Varsity Basketball team. Allen generally plays point guard and occasionally plays shooting guard.

She is also co-founder of the Hotchkiss Black Student Union (HBSU) and a board member of the Black and Hispanic Student Association (BaHSA). 

How did you discover your passion for basketball?

My journey in basketball started in 4th grade, when my dad encouraged me to play. Initially, it was just a way to hang out with friends, but something clicked after that first year. 

I fell in love with the competitive nature of basketball, the unique feeling of being on the court, and the thrill of watching games. It quickly shifted from a pastime to a passion.

What have been some of your favorite moments on the team?

A couple of moments stand out vividly. Winning the Ethel Walker Christmas tournament this year was an incredible high. 

But even more memorable was our semi-final win against Thayer Academy last season. 

These experiences didn’t just show our team’s strength, they brought us closer together, creating bonds that go beyond the court.

What are some of your goals for the upcoming season?

For this season, my aspirations are high but grounded. My primary aim is to win the championship and to improve our team’s record from last season. 

On a personal front, making the NEPSAC all-star team is a significant goal. 

However, above all, I want to cherish every moment of my last year in high school basketball, making every game count.

What advice would you give to other players?

To young players who dream of excelling in basketball, I’d say never lose sight of your goals. It’s easy to get sidetracked, especially when you start comparing your journey to others. 

Always remember why you started playing and stay true to that passion. 

It’s about loving the game, growing with every play, and keeping your aspirations clear and close to your heart.
