This year’s Homecoming (HOCO) Dance, held in the Dining Hall, offered students a chance to celebrate “Under the Stars.”
The event on October 28 was planned by a committee created by All-School Presidents Anji Ashaye ’24 and Jacquo Pierre ’24 and overseen by Ms. Marcie Wistar, director of student activities, clubs, and affinity organizations. Committee member Anya Bixby ’25 said, “The group helped provide a diverse range of opinions on what we want the dance to look like.”
The committee included students from all grade levels and used Google Forms and Stu-Fac meetings to gather opinions from students regarding HOCO’s theme and decorations.
Ms. Wistar said, “The committee makes the theme for the year, brainstorms how they want to decorate, and helps collect song requests for the DJ.”
Members of the committee—along with Class Council and Student Activities—also decorated and cleaned up after the event.
The dance’s theme was “Under the Stars.” Students decorated the Dining Hall with gold and yellow streamers, string lights, projector lights, and a disco-ball. Students enjoyed a fountain drink station, dessert bar, and two photo booths.
In addition to DJ Scottie, a local Connecticut entertainer, the dance featured student performers for the first time. Student band MB140 performed a set, including sing-along hits The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” and the Black-Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get It Started.”
MB140 electric guitarist Will McGee ’24 said, “I’ve played guitar at a lot of different events, but the atmosphere at Homecoming was totally different from anything I’ve experienced before.”
