Ms. Carita Gardiner, dean of the class of 2025 and instructor in English, was awarded the Lufkin Prize on May 12. Established in 2006, the Lufkin Prize is given annually to a faculty member who serves as a role model for students and contributes significantly to character development in the Hotchkiss community.
In her speech, Ms. Gardiner credited former Lufkin winners, including Mr. Charlie Frankenbach, head of the English department, Mrs. Christy Cooper, Prep class dean and instructor in English, and Mr. Brad Faus, director of the art program as inspirations.
She also thanked her family, including her partner Mr. Chris Oostenink, head of the science department, her students, and her dog, Tukka.
Community members found stickers embellished with Ms. Gardiner’s trademark sparkles and the motto, “Embrace the Quest,” in their mailboxes after her speech.
