On March 12, 2023, your favorite stars will walk the red carpet and up the stairs of the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to enter the 95th Academy Awards ceremony. The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is an annual awards ceremony that honors outstanding achievements in film. This year’s nominees include Austin Butler, Angela Bassett, Steven Spielberg and other prominent figures. Who will take home the coveted awards? Here are my predictions.
Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All at Once
After earning countless awards this season and the most Oscar nominations by any film this year, EEAA will likely be the winner of the evening’s most coveted award.
Best Director: Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for EEAA
The Daniels won a DGA award, and, in 74 years, only eight directors with the award have not won an Oscar.
Best Lead Actor: Brendan Fraser for The Whale
Fraser’s comeback performance after quitting acting in 2008 has garnered rave reviews and a Critic’s Choice award, making him the most plausible winner.
Best Lead Actress: Michelle Yeoh for EEAA
This year’s Best Actress category is competitive, but Yeoh has already won the Golden Globe for Best Actress, which is typically a good indicator of what will come at the Oscars.
Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy Quan for EEAA
Quan’s return to the big screen has earned him praise, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA award.
Best Supporting Actress: Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Basset’s performance was a highlight of the film. After winning the Golden Globe, I expect him to take home the trophy.
Best Original Screenplay: Martin McDonagh for The Banshees of Inisherin
The screenplay blends comedy and drama to produce a heartbreaking film deserving of an Academy Award.
Best Cinematography: James Friend for All Quiet on the Western Front
Friend’s cinematography, which won the BAFTA film awards, expertly creates a moving, bleak tone during battle scenes.
