As The Record transitions to its CXXV Editorial Board, we would like to thank the dedication the CXXIV Editorial Board has shown to The Record, including those endless edits on articles, pages of layouts, and hours spent in meetings. Now, after our final issue as the graduating Editors-in-Chief of the CXXIV Executive Board, we bid farewell to The Record:
Amelie Zhang ’23:
From mimicking TikTok sounds during layout to fighting over who orders dinner, being an Editor-in-Chief at The Record has largely shaped my life at school over the past year. Now, as I leave The Record, I can hardly imagine it, but I know that I will cherish the memories and times with the paper.
Dear readers, I want to thank you all for your readership and support. The Record, as a school newspaper, functions to serve the school community, and your support keeps it running after these many years. To Ms. Villano, Mx. Wynn, and Mr. Van Mierlo, thank you all for your endless support throughout my time as Editor-in-Chief. Advising The Record is certainly not easy, and you all have always shown dedication and patience to both the newspaper and me, which I am immensely grateful for. To Lauren, Carrie, and Ben, thank you for being the greatest co-EiCs that I could have asked for. You all always made the late nights more enjoyable, and I’m glad to have been able to get to know you all so well. To the rest of the Editorial Board, it’s been a pleasure working with you all, and thank you for all your hard work. For the record, I’ll miss you all.
Lauren McLane ’23:
Two weeks after handing over the reins, I feel a profound change in my life at Hotchkiss. For one, an immense amount of free time has magically reappeared—time to eat, time to sleep, time to read the newspaper.
Thank you editors, writers, and photographers for your hard work and dedication. Ms. Villano, Mx. Wynn, and Mr. Van Mierlo — thank you for your unwavering enthusiasm, guidance, and support. Finally, to my fellow EiCs, Amelie, Carrie, and Ben — thank you for your friendship and your ability to find humor in even the most desperate situations. I will always treasure our memories together, projecting moshpit rave photos as placeholders for front-page news and vegging out to minesweeper before a final print run at 2 am. It’s crazy how quickly this year has passed. I’ll miss you guys.
Carrie Cao ’23:
Working for The Record the past four years has made me feel a mix of emotions. It has been extremely stressful and sleep depriving at times, but it has also never made me feel more proud from the first time I saw my name on a byline to seeing students discussing articles in the Dining Hall. I’ve loved every single minute of sitting in SB202 to joining Zoom meetings until 1 a.m., correcting apostrophes, finding last minute photos, and reworking endless layouts.
Thank you to Ms. Villano, Mx. Wynn, and Mr. Van Mierlo for giving me this opportunity and for your endless dedication and encouragement. To Amelie, Lauren, and Benjamin, thank you for giving me a friendship filled with moments of laughter and slight bickering that kept me sane through the long nights staring at a screen. Finally, to the editors, writers, photographers, and readers, it has been a wonderful experience and your hard work never went unnoticed. While I will miss The Record and everything it has given me, I am grateful to have my Sundays back. Thank you for the incredible journey! I will miss you all.
