As the conclusion of the 21-22 school year approaches and the flurry of graduation and end-of-year events conclude, students of all grades seek to end the year strong.
Seniors, we wish that now, as you prepare to depart with your diplomas, you’ve left it all in Lakeville. We hope that you’ve enjoyed living in the dorms with no AC, spontaneously going down to Lake Wononscopomuc, staying up late, finishing work, and living the Hotchkiss life to the fullest. In no way could anyone graduate from the school without experiencing the struggles that make the place what it is, but the collective understanding of such is what unites our school. With that, we hope that you all have grown and learned from this place called Hotchkiss, and regardless of what regrets you may have, you’re grateful for your time here.
Thank you all for your leadership in this community, and your class’ support in our school’s striving for our motto: “Guided by each other, let us seek better paths.” This school year has been tumultuous in many ways, ranging from Covid to disciplinary controversy. However, this stress on our community has only allowed us to adapt, resulting in concrete changes for our disciplinary system, setting us up better for next year. While you all will not be here to experience these changes, the Class of 2022 impacted the school as a whole, and for that, multiple classes of students following you will be thankful. Continue your journeys on to better paths wherever you go, and hold your friendships made at the school dear.
While Seniors move on to life after Hotchkiss, Upper Mids, Lower Mids, and Preps alike must reflect and look forward to the new school year ahead. (after finishing finals, of course.) Like the literal “Move down” ceremony in Walker Auditorium, this new year brings new responsibilities as we all step up to a new level within the school. Remember that seniority is not given but earned through leading by example, being respectful, and honoring our school values.
Congratulations to the Class of 2022 on their graduation, and here’s to a new school year!
