Student Pianists Featured in Lang Lang Concert

Laughter and applause filled Elfers Hall on Sunday, September 26, as world-renowned pianist Lang Lang finished his first ever exclusive performance for a high school. His visit to the school consisted of a recital and two masterclasses. The thirty-minute-long recital program featured selections from the Goldberg Variations by J. S. Bach, Liebestraum No. 3 by Franz Liszt, Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms played four-hand with his student Oliver Chen ’22, and “Radetzky March” by Johann Strauss played four-hand with Mr. Fabio Witkowki, head of the visual and performing arts department and instructor in piano. Along with the performance, Lang Lang also gave live masterclasses on stage to two piano students, Ricky Shi ’23 and Kenny Zhang ’22. In this Artists of the Issue, Arts is featuring the music journeys of Chen, Shi, and Zhang.
