After defending his title at the United States Youth Championships, Chapman Petersen ’22 is ready to check another goal off his list and compete at the national level. Petersen has been named to represent the U.S. in the Youth World Championship this coming December in Mussanah, Oman.

Petersen will be competing in the Male One Person Dinghy Class. He will be sailing solo in a fourteen-foot sailboat. Despite the challenge, Petersen is eager to compete in December, saying, “While the event I am competing in has me sailing in the ICLA Six  Dinghy, an extremely difficult boat that requires an incredible amount of physical effort, I could not be more excited to add another skill to my repertoire in Oman.”

From starting at local competing levels to regional levels, Petersen is excited to compete at the event. He said, “This has been a dream of mine ever since I began competing at the age of ten. Like any competitor, my ultimate goal is to bring home the gold medal. I hope the sacrifices and work that I have put in over the years will pay off!”

Next year, he will continue both his academic and sailing career at Stanford University.
