This year, the school was approached by Atlantic Sportswear, producer of Under Armour sports wear, with a proposal to produce Hotchkiss gear. The sports apparel business has been dominated recently by three major brands: Adidas, Nike, and Under Armour. Mr. Danny Smith, Director of Athletics, clarified the budding relationship and how this will affect the school community. According to Mr. Smith, “It may take a few years to get all of our teams on board, but the goal is to have a similar, classic design for our teams [using Atlantic]. Under Armour has marketed their uniforms towards the youth and high school level. They make high quality gear that is stylish, durable, and reasonably priced. Hotchkiss will phase in the Under Armour uniforms over the next few years.”

The arrangement with Under Armour for sports teams does not prevent the school from selling, or the students from wearing, non-Under Armour gear.  Mr. Smith said, “For the time being, this is not the same type of [exclusive] obligation that you hear about at the collegiate level. Notre Dame, Boston College, and Yale have all recently made the decision to wear Under Armour gear.”

The school has previously accquired its athletic gear from multiple sources. This new deal will help the school’s athletic programs appear more unified. Dylan Kalaydjian ’19 said, “I’m excited to see the school look stylish on and off the field. I think [many] students are going to like what comes out of this partnership.”
