What’s New on Campus?

New English SpaceHarry Roepers ’19

English Department Office

The English department faculty relocated their office this summer to the previous double English classroom. The move was initiated because the two classrooms did not function optimally due to noise competition between the classrooms. Additionally, the new office space offers the faculty windows with a lake view. The old office space will be used as a meeting area for student activities, providing a spacious venue for group discussions.

VS Beach Playground

Faculty children (and students) have already made themselves at home on this new play structure. Its predecessor, a much smaller swing set, was put up by the Eso family about 12 years ago and had deteriotated. The new jungle gym features monkey bars, swings, two slides, and a rock climbing wall. The area includes plenty of new seating options that make the space more inviting for adults watching their children play as well as new landscaping for shade.

Art Wing Renovation

The Art Wing received a facelift over the summer, thanks to generous gifts from the parents of the class of 2018. The space now includes a spacious outdoor patio, which will allow students to take advantage of the landscape as inspiration for their work. One notable aspect of the design is its use of locally-sourced wood. In fact, 80 percent of the wood was obtained from the school’s own grounds, mainly from the large elm tree that was cut down last spring.
